Photo Contest Archives

Fall 2012

When a workshop participant gave me a copy of this photo, I just had to share it with you and invite you come up with an appropriate caption. The winner will receive a signed copy of The Joy of Conflict Resolution and the adulation of the thousands (hundreds?) of folks who follow this site.

We received two dozen entries to our inaugural "caption contest". Notably, most entrants asked to remain anonymous, assuring me that their (cheeky) captions did not necessarily reflect their personal views. The top five (as judged by a panel, who also wished to remain anonymous.

1. "No, Bubba, I doubled-checked. It's when the knife went in - nothing about bullet wounds."

2. "Which one of you wants to play the victim?"

3. "Stay curious, but keep the gun handy just in case."

4. "So did we come here to go hunting or what?" "Alright, just one more paragraph, seriously!"

5. "It says here I should apologize to you boys."

And here's my own submission:
Having reached a standoff with his prey, our intrepid hero prepares to adopt a collaborative approach.

The winner of the contest is Karonne Hanlen of Vancouver. She attributes her "wacky/macabre sense of humour" to her years of working in Forensic Pathology at Vancouver General Hospital. Thanks, Karonne, and to everyone else who entered.

Fall 2013

Congratulations to all who entered the annual photo caption contest. We had a repeat winner: Karonne Hanlen, who also won the inaugural contest last fall. Here are the top four entries, as determined by an eclectic panel who shall remain anonymous:

1. That's victim, villain, hero, or "resolutionary", not "revolutionary"!

2. "Now, are we paying attention to me! Okay good! I called you all here so we could collectively discuss our issues, in this non-threatening and non-intimidating space. Just because I am in the position of power and authority does not mean that you can't say what you feel. This is a safe space where everyone's opinions are important! Okay, who wants to go first, don't be hold back, say what you feel! I promise to listen and be direct!

3/4. Woo whooo, I've just dealt with the mother-in-law - that should make the rest of the marriage a breeze!

3/4. Whew! So that's what her Old Man meant by a shotgun wedding!

Fall 2014

As the fall approaches, I thought it time to conduct another photo caption contest by inviting you to create a conflict-related caption for the picture below. The winner will receive a signed copy of The Joy of Conflict Resolution and the adulation of the thousands (hundreds?) of folks who follow this site. Send your caption to me at garyharper@shaw.ca by the end of September to be eligible.
